100th Anniversary of A-1 Pictures Anime!

Animation studio A-1 Pictures (Accel World, Black Butler, Fairy Tail, SAO, and FMA) is producing a special anime, Toki wa Meguru ~ TOKYO STATION (Time Flows ~ Tokyo Station), to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Tokyo Station City train station.

Tokyo Station
Background Information: Served by Shinkansen high-speed rail lines, Tokyo Station is the main intercity rail terminal in Tokyo. It is the busiest station in Japan in terms of number of trains per day (over 3,000), and the fifth-busiest in Eastern Japan in terms of passenger throughput. It is also served by many regional commuter lines of Japan Railways, as well as the Tokyo Metro network.

Toki wa Meguru (Time Flows) by Yū Sakai is th theme song featured in this 30 second promotional video for the anime set to premiere in spring of 2014.

Dialogue in the video (Thanks to ANN.com!):
"Dad... It would have been great if we had talked more, huh? Mom said it, you know. "Your dad was the god that protects the times of Tokyo Station." I wonder... Does that mean that time has stopped since that day?"

Thanks to Anime News Network for the dialogue for the video which normally I can never find! Please don't sue me for using the translation without permission!!! xD

Sony HMD & Other Reality Blurring Tech!

Now you might be asking yourself what does HMD mean? Or what does this have to do with anime? Well read on and the answers to your question will be answered!

At Anime Japan 2013 Sony's new HMD (head-mounted device) takes those who wear it into the world of anime. It tracks your head movements so it feels as if you're actually inside a cartoon. Turning your head to the left or right Also Makes what your watching move in That direction as well. At Sony's Booth They Demonstrated the Technology using the anime The IDOLM @ STER, and They Demonstrated with two Different Scenarios. One Scenario Placed the user at a concert, with the Wearer in the perspective of an audience member. The other is set in the offices of the talent agency from the anime and lets you watch the cast behind the scenes.

Graphinica, a special effects studio active in several anime (The Pilot's Love Song, Girls und Panzer) blurs realities boarders and animation even further with its Live2D motion capture technology. With the use of the Xbox 360 Kinect device and a microphone they can translate not only the voice, but movements of an on screen 2D character, and while the technology is common this uses a 2-D animation while others most comonly will use 3-D to get closer to reality as they can.

With all of this technology that is being advanced and released it brings around the question of what will come next for the world of anime and even gaming? Will anime fans get a real SAO experience? And the most important question being, Will all of these advances in technology bring society further from reality than what is needed? n the comments page of the blog.

Log Horizon Review!

Any Sword Art Online fans out there? Well this is probably the anime for you, and as always I am here to tell you all about this epic MMORPG anime tale! For this review I will go over a summary of the series, my personal opinion, news, comparison to SAO, and a link to where to watch the series. Now, let us jump on in to the review!

I have heard that this was a good anime, but I never actually watched it whats it about?
If you havent seen it yet you must it is a series that will sneak up behind you grab hold and never let go! Anyway, Log Horizon  is a Japanese novel series written by Mamare Touno. The series follows the strategist, Shiroe, and the other players of the long-lived MMORPG Elder Tale after they find themselves whisked away into the game world following a game update. The novel has received four manga adaptations, with one based on the main story and the other three revolving around characters in the series. An anime adaptation aired on NHK Educational TV between October 5, 2013 and March 22, 2014.

How could this possibly compare to SAO?!

Deviant Art Miizu-Kun
Well there have been many comparisons made for this series that include the obvious one that both involve people trapped inside of a virtual game after the game received an update. One other comparison fans of SAO make is that the main character for LH is not as awesome as Kirito the main protagonist of SAO, and on that I would tell those people that this series main character is in my perspective better than Kirito because he actually takes the initiative to communicate with many of the games strongest players and make rules for everyone while they are still trapped in the world of elder tale while all kirito was focused on was trying to get his self out. Now, what is drastically different when comparing the series is that in SAO if you died in the game the same went for your body in reality, and in LH it stays true to a real game in that you just revive at a designated point. I could go on with comparisons, but some get me flustered with what fans comment on and that would lead to a whole post of me rambling, but If you have anything to say/ask just post in the comments Ill answer them all :)

Izuru-san what news is there about this anime?

Well there is the good and the bad news and I will start with the bad. The season ended March 22nd with its 25th episode after 6 months of airing. Now, the good news is that it was only the end of the first season and it was announced that a second season would be ready for fans to watch come October of this year! So what that means is you should go watch it if you havent already and then wait patiently for October to roll around so you can follow the series adventurers once again!

What is it you liked Izuru-san?

By the first episode I already knew I liked the overall character design and animation. The series is very well animated and some of the attacks have an awesome visual appeal to me. The story line for LH in my opinion is much better than what was executed with SAO in that the latter had those annoying time skips always making me feel I missed something in the last episode or that I wasn't paying enough attention. Another thing I liked about the story was that it stayed true to what its would be like to play a modern day MMORPG in today's reality, and how every episode has a short explanation of real game terms such as guilds, classes, and sub classes. Overall, it was a series that moved a comfortable pace to me and did a nice job of integrating real life MMORPG elements to the anime and story line.

Mayumi is a daughter of the Saegusa Family, one of the Ten Master Clans.

Weeds vs Blooms
A big part of the manga is the categories for students in the high school there are two categories; the Blooms or Course one students are the students who had high entrance scores and therefore stronger magic. The Weeds or Course two students are those that were below the first half of students that scored good on the entrance exam and therefore they have lesser capabilities in regards of there magic.

The name Blooms comes from the symbol of First High, a flower, being present on the clothing of the Course 1 students and not the Course 2 students. There is a general feeling of superiority among the Blooms just by being in Course 1. The Course 1 students are sorted into classes A, B, C and D, while the Course 2 students are sorted into classes E, F, G and H. Class distribution is supposed to be evenly split between the four classes, although exceptions occur which give educators considerable headaches.

As opposed to the Blooms with a flower on their uniform, the Weeds do not have it, hence their name. People in Course 2 generally have weaker magical capabilities compared to those in Course 1. People in Course 2 have limited access to instructors and facilities as compared to the Blooms.

Ten Master Classes
The Ten Master Clans is the title given to the Top 10 most influential magic families in Japan. The power of these houses ascends beyond that of judicial authorities. There were a total of 28 families worthy of the name the Ten Master Clans, and whoever possessed the strongest magic, the top ten will carry the title. The remaining families which serve as replacements are called the 18 Assistant Houses.

The current Ten Master Clans are:
  1. Ichijou
  2. Futatsugi
  3. Mitsuya
  4. Yoitsuba
  5. Itsuwa
  6. Mutsudzuka
  7. Saegusa
  8. Yatsushiro
  9. Kudou
  10. Juumonj

Student Council
First High School places heavy emphasis on self-determination, thus, the Student Council has been granted vast powers within the confines of the school. It is stated that most of the other schools in Japan also adopt a similar method.

Student Council members must be selected from the Course 1 students. To change this requires a special amendment meeting with the attendance of the full student body and carried by a two-thirds majority.

Modern Magic

Modern Magic is categorized by the type of action instead of its apparent nature. It is divided into 4 major types and each contain 2 subtypes. These are collectively known as the Four Great Systems and Eight Major Types. Cardinal Codes are Magic Sequences that are supposed to be the building blocks of these systems.

Ancient Magic

Developed before modern magic, ancient magic is capable of different things, most of it is specialized beyond the capabilities of modern magic. Generally, ancient magic is slower and more focused than modern magic, as practitioners do not use CADs and instead use talismans and the like. Families that inherit ancient magics tend to hide their abilities, although in the new age of categorization, it tends to be a little less pronounced. In terms of surprise attacks, ancient magic boasts superior firepower and secrecy. There are some ancient magics that allow people to fly, which was impossible to replicate with modern magic until Shiba Tatsuya accomplished it.

Magic Power

International Standards rank Magicians according to their abilities, from rank E to rank A. Currently, Magic Power standards are calculated by:
- Interference Strength (strength of rewriting Eidos)
- Scale of Magic Sequences (magic tolerance)
- Speed (speed of magic design)
The Magic Power is the combination of the three.

Magic Power standards change over time.

Well since it has been so long since there has been any other subject up on the blog I thought that I would at least give you all another PV to take a look at for this rapidly approaching anime. Enjoy!

While I have no idea what is being said I can assure you this has peaked my interest for the series even more, and I am even looking for a good legal way to read some English scans of the manga that will not only promote the series, but hopefully contribute to amazing episodes.

Casting Assistant Device:
Better known as CAD,  is a spell support processor. CAD allows the processing of all the necessary components for magic in a single moment. In detail, these devices help accelerate the invocation of magic, as well as stability.

These replace tools such as spell chants, talismans, hand seals, magic circles, magic tomes and other traditional methods of invoking magic. It is a tool of necessity for any modern Magic Technician.

Psion:
Psions, also known as Thought Particles, are substanceless particles that come under the dimension of psychic phenomenon, an information element that records the result of cognizance and thought.

CADs absorb Psions, which the Psion Information Aide transmits into the chosen Activation Sequence. The Activation Sequence will then be fed back to the Magician who will construct a Magic Sequence from the Activation Sequence, which will then affect the Eidos of the target. In Ancient Magic, these particles are referred to as chi.

Knights of Sidonia UPDATE!

Hey you sci-fi anime lovers and mech lovers as well I have brought to you an update from my last Knights of Sidonia post which you can read here!

What is this update Izuru-san? Well the fourth commercial for the anime adaptation of Tsutomu Nihei's sci-fi manga has offered another look at what we will get from this series.

This short promotional video for the series has ,in its short time, given me much insight as for whats to come. The first thing I notice from this sneak peek is the combination of both the 2D norm for character animation and 3D cgi of the series mecha. This is nice because not everyone is a cgi fan when it comes down to anime, myself included, there are few series that have actually pulled it off (Tiger&Bunny, and Gatchaman Crowds), but we will just have to see how well it works for this project.

A little Background to the production side of the series is that the spring 2014 anime is produced by Polygon Pictures (Transformers: Prime, Tron: Rising, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) as its 30th anniversary title. Kobun Shizuno, the director of  2005-2007 American TV series G.I. Joe: Sigma 6 for Gonzo as well as three Detective Conan films (Quarter of Silence, The Eleventh Striker, Private Eye in the Distant Sea), will also be directing this upcoming series.

G.G.O Set For July!

Now, the second season has been announced for July of this year. This season will introduce the new female character, Sinon, a female sniper in Gun Gale Online

The Gundam Announcement!

So, sorry that the previous post was a bit late but the announcement has already been made and I figured why not just put up both posts so this one is of the actual announcement that was made.

The live announcement was recorded for those that missed it, but it is in Japanese with no subtitles unfortunately for those of you who don't understand the language.

You can watch the announcement video if you visit: www.gundam35th.net

The anniversary project has launched some big plans for upcoming year. It was previously announced that, Gundam Unicorn will wraping up this spring with the 90 minute seventh and final episode screening in Japanese theaters for a limited time May 17th before the June 6th home video release. With the end of Unicorn comes the beginnning of many long awaited projects for us Gundam fans.

One such project is from Gundam series creator Yoshiyuki Tomino's space elevator project G-Reko debuts this falls as Gundam Reconguista in G.

Gundam Reconguista in G is set in the next century of the Universal calendar, the anime will feature Kenichi Yoshida on character design. Yoshida is also joined by a team that includes Akira Yasuda, Ippei Gyoubu, and Kimitoshi Yamane who will work on mecha with Yuugo Kanno.

Also, the four part anime adaptation of Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin manga is scheduled to begin the spring of next year with a "Blue Eyed Casval".

In other news, Yasutaka Nakata, an artist who has performed with Perfume and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (Pon Pon Pon), is linked to a theme song for the anniversary.

The new Gundam for the new main character of Gundam Reconguista in G (Above) is similar in design to the Strike Freedom (Gundam Seed Destiny) with its gold accents, and also had similarities to many other C.E. mobile suits.

The Original Gundam (Right) is shown looking very nice and remastered compared to the original animation from early 90's, so I am hoping that they can keep the same designs just touch them up so they have a nice balance of modern animation and the original animation.

Thanks to Anime Channel on Youtube for the clips used in this post subscribe HERE for other cool trailers!

Gundam Anniversary Website Celebrates 35 Years!

Today in one hour on the anniversary website an new announcement will be broadcast live at 5:00pm JST (1:00am PST). There have been many speculations of what is to come for this announcement that include; the upcoming Gundam: The Origin anime, Creator Yoshiyuki Tomino's new anime (G-Reko or collaboration project with Legacy Effects), but we will just have to see when the announcement is made. The announcement is from sunrise who of course be the studio animating the upcoming gundam anime.

For those of you who were not aware Bandai did confirm back in July of 2013 that Tomino's newest anime work will be released as a part of the 35th anniversary of the Gundam franchise in 2014 to 2015 as well as the Gundam: The Origin anime adaptation.

I have never seen Gundam Izuru-san, what is it about? Great question! I love to tell people about this franchise any chance I get because it is the series that got me into anime when I was younger. Anyway, The Gundam Series is a metaseries of space opera anime created by Sunrise studios that features giant robots (or "mecha") called "Mobile Suits" (MS); usually the protagonist's MS will carry the name Gundam. The metaseries started on April 7, 1979, as a serial TV show called Mobile Suit Gundam. That first TV series has since spawned a franchise that has come to include works released in numerous media. Titles have appeared in the form of multiple television series and OVAs, movies, manga, novels and video games, among other modes. Out of the many series that have spawned from the original is one that is not appreciated enough among the gundam fanbase; Gundam Seed (NOT DESTINY!!!).

Well everyone Ill give you an update once the announcement has been made, so look out for that post every so often!

Magi Spin off anime!

Magi: The Labyrinth/Kingdom of Magic, The story is set in an alternate recreation of the ancient Old World with several regions and nations having some resemblances with real-life counterparts from that time. In this world, all living beings possess an essence known as Rukh and when they die, this essence returns to the huge flow of Rukh that gives life to all subsequent beings in an eternal cycle of rebirth called "Fate". Once a person is overcome with sadness, anger and hopelessness, their Rukh turns into a corrupted, unstable, black-colored Rukh that deviates from the main guidance in a process known as "Fall into Depravity".

Labyrinth of Magic: After being secluded for his entire life, a boy called Aladdin travels the world until he meets Alibaba Saluja, a young man aiming to one day explore the nearby dungeon Amon and claim its treasures. Aladdin and Alibaba eventually become friends, and conquer Amon together, despite facing the opposition of the ruthless Jamil and his slave warriors, with only Alibaba, Aladdin and Morgiana, the only survivor of Jamil's party, escaping with their lives. After having their own adventures in separate locations, Aladdin and Morgiana end up reuniting with Alibaba in Balbadd where they learn that he has joined the Fog Troupe, a cadre of thieves opposing the tyrannical rule of King Abhmad, Alibaba's half-brother. Helped by Aladdin, Morgiana and Sinbad, a famous king of the island country of Sindria, Alibaba manages to have the monarchy dissolved and establishes a republic in Balbadd. Following the events in Balbadd, Aladdin, Alibaba and Morgiana are brought to Sindria, where they train under members of Sinbad's household to increase their abilities and help him with his mission to stop the mysterious organization Al Thamen that works in the shadows to spread chaos throughout the world as part of an unknown agenda. The trio ends up befriending Hakuryuu Ren, a prince of the Kou Empire visiting Sindria and whom they help to conquer the dungeon Zagan. After confronting some members of Al Thamen, Aladdin and his friends go separate ways for personal reasons, promising to rejoin together in the future. Aladdin enrolls in the Magnostadt Academy to study magic, Alibaba leaves to improve his swordsmanship and learn magoi manipulation in order to complete his djinn equip with the Yambala Gladiators in the Reim Empire, Hakuryuu returns to the Kou Empire, and Morgiana departs to the Dark Continent to fulfill her dream of visiting her homeland.

Kingdom of Magic: Aladdin, Alibaba, and Morgiana's adventures continue in the magical Kingdom of Magnostadt, a country ruled by magicians, and the Reim Empire, which is protected by the Magi Scheherazade.

SPOILER ALERT OVER!

Now, after that ridiculously long summary of both season one and two of the main series lets get to what this post is really about. The main series has a spinoff manga titled, Magi: Adventures of Sinbad which follows one of the main series side characters Sinbad of Sindria as a young man journeying to conquer his first dungeon and gain his first Djinn, is now to be produced into an anime adaptation produced by studio Lay-duce and scheduled to be released with the manga's third volume on May 16, 2014. It is also confirmed that Daisuke Ono will return to voice main character Sinbad, among other reprisals.

I'm excited to see this OVA of the main series and hope that it has much success so that it may convince the author Shinobu Ohtaka to keep writing more for the manga and keep it alive for the fans, but only if she can do so without succumbing to fan service and predictable story lines. Below you can watch a very short PV of whats to come in Japanese only though, but it does show some art from the manga and how it will look for the OVA enjoy!

Please enjoy the currently ongoing main story Magi: The Labyrinth/Kingdom of Magic HERE at crunchyroll your source for legal streaming anime, and manga (premium) for all of us otaku! Also, let me know if you would like to get a review of this anime/manga in the comments.

Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei coming April 5th!

Hello again my fellow anime enthusiasts (Aka Otaku), I'm here with another post about yet another magic related anime! I know I know by now you might be getting a little tired of these posts, but I promise it's only temporary and will definitely diversify soon. Anyway on to what this post is about; recently released was the sixth commercial for the quickly approaching anime Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei (The irregular at magic high school), and to go along with it a new key visual was also unveiled!

Izuru-san what even is The irregular at magic high school? Oh I was wondering when you would ask! Well a Japanese light novel series written by Tsutomu Satō and illustrated by Kana Ishida was adapted into several manga, each adapting a different arc of the light novel. Now, an anime television series adaptation by Madhouse is scheduled to air from April 5, 2014. As far as the story goes, the series is set in a world where magic exists and has been utilized as a technology for nearly a century. Rather than casting spells with chants or other traditional forms of spellcasting, mages use a Casting Assistant Device, better known as a CAD. Mages infuse the CAD with psions or thought particles (a substance-less particle and psychic phenomenon) while the CAD itself provides an activation sequence, which is then used to construct a magic ritual in order to invoke the magic. This magic ritual targets the Idea, the platform on which Eidos are recorded. Eidos refers to a form of information that is attached to a phenomenon. Modern magic uses false signals to manipulate the Eidos of a target, which in turn modifies the phenomenon and causes physical changes in the real world.

Well Izuru-san you gave us the setting and all, but what is the actual anime going to be about?! Oops guess I should give you more information, so as not to leave you confused and on your own to find it somewhere else! In the year 2095(81 years from now!), Tatsuya Shiba and his sister Miyuki Shiba are new students enrolling at the Private Magic University Affiliated High School (First High School). Students are ranked according to their test scores: students with the best grades are designated "Bloom" and enrolled in the Course 1 curriculum, while those with poor scores are designated "Weed" and enrolled in Course 2. Miyuki topped the entrance exams and is selected to be the first years' representative, while Tatsuya is placed in Course 2 due to his low practical test score, despite scoring the highest in the written portion of the exams. Now this answers your question doesn't it...probably should have answered the previous question with this information huh!

This sounds interesting Izuru-san, but where can I see those commercials you originally mentioned? Oh yes! Thank you for reminding me that is the whole reson for this post anyway. Well before you start watching the commercial please do know that I don't claim any parts of the video as my own and that all rights belong to the respective owners.

Want to thank Maxim Firsov for the videos used in this post!

Those commercials were short but they looked nice! What about the Visual you told us about earlier in the post Izuru-san? Good that you asked about it I actually have it all planned out in a fun way! So, what I have decided to do is that starting tomorrow I will start a countdown in the form of a post; each post will include the number of days left until the anime premiers and an official character picture with a short description of the character. This will happen every day until April 5th which is the premiere date of the anime (We know Izuru-san you have said it at least 3 times already what day it will be out -_-). Also, any time during the countdown I may include any other images related to the anime or manga for you to enjoy and get hyped about the series.

Anything else you can tell us Izuru-san? Hmmm...let me think for a second, and then I will let you know if there is anything else! Oh I got it this might not be something that many of you would care about, but there is the people behind the scenes of the anime. Manabu Ono (Full metal Panic!, Tenchi Muyo, and Hellsing) will be directing the anime with assistant director Yuuji Kumazawa at the Studio MADHOUSE (Black Lagoon, Cardcaptor sakura, and Gunslinger Girl). The original  light novel illustrator Kana Ishida is also handling the anime character designs along with sub-character designer Maho Yoshikawa. There are three chief animation directors; Ishida, Maho Yoshikawa, and Shinichi Miyamae are their names and they will be working together on most of the animations while the action animation directors are Takashi Tomioka and Satoshi Iwataki who will be working on the battle sequences of the series. Oh yeah and I also heard that the first opening song of the series is by LiSA while the ending will be sung by ELISA both popular artist you might have even heard a part of the song in the clips above.
